I am Samantha Rucker, a 23 years old and currently living in Spokane, WA. I am originally from San Antonio, TX. I graduated high school a year early and joined the military in 2014. I have been stationed in Mississippi, Florida and now Washington. I have been in the commercial photography world for a year and a half!
Questions and Answers
"How did you get into photography?"
-I saved money from my job in high school and graduation cash to buy my first DSLR in 2014! So from 2014-2017, I photographed as a hobby. My perception was I didn't want to make it feel like a job as it brought so much joy to me to be able to capture amazing photos for family and friends. In 2017, in a pivotal spot in my life I needed a creative outlet. For me, commercial photography is so fascinating. I love entrepreneurship and the fact of making a business' vision come to life. So in a year and a half, I have been published in three magazine prints and worked with companies around the world.
"What has been your favorite shot or shoot?"
-I feel like as I progress this changes, but one that sticks out is the shoot I did back in October of 2018 in Green Bluff. The colors and model were on point. They turned out better than I could have hoped! I also really loved shooting with Tiffany and baby Luke, a mommy blogger here is Spokane.
"Lessons learned so far?"
-I could write a whole blog post on just 2018! But to keep it short, CONTRACT, CONTRACT and CONTRACT! There has been many times where it put me in an uncomfortable situations with businesses. Even with a contracts, there still has been those situations. Also, just shoot. Work on your craft and focus on yourself. It is way to compare to someone who is at a different stage in their business. Do you!
"What is next?"
-As some of you may know, later this year I will be separating from the military and moving to NYC. While I am very excited about this transition, I am uncertain where I will go professionally. I will be taking a few months off to move and get settled. I will be doing a huge road trip in the beginning and hope to photograph and blog it!
"What are you currently working on?"
-I am currently working on a few projects. One is wedding product related and the other is food. Stay tuned!
